It's exactly one year ago today that Barcelona suffered an embarrassing defeat in the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League in Portugal. The weather was clear and the night was calm on that day in Lisbon but at the end, Barcelona found themselves in no man's land as Bayern Munich embarrassed them.

The Match was played following the decision of UEFA to resume the Champions League after it was suspended because of the Pandemic. Instead of the first and second leg rounds that will be played on the home ground and away of the participants, UEFA chose neutral grounds and opted for the single-elimination approach.

Barcelona conceded 8 goals that night making it the first time that the club shipped in 8 goals in a match since 1946. What went wrong that night for the Blaugrana in Portugal?

The Match started with both sides having a say in the game. Thomas Muller scored the first goal of the game in the 4th minute. It didn't take long for Barcelona to equalise after David Alaba put the ball into his own net with a pass from Jordi Alba.

Luis Suarez was denied a goal by Manuel Neuer while Lionel Messi hit the side bar in the following minutes. Barcelona's failure to capitalize on their chances did more damages as Bayern Munich scored 3 more goals before the first half ended.

There were hopes that Barcelona could still Savage the day in the second half after Luis Suarez scored Barcelona's second goal 12 minutes into the second half but it wasn't enough to stop Hansi Flick's squad. Joshua Kimmich added another goal shortly after Luis Suarez scored.

In the last 10 minutes of the game, Robert Lewandowski got his goal against Barcelona while Philippe Coutinho who was on loan scored a brace against his parent club.

In the Barcelona Defense that night were Nelson Semedo, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet and Jordi Alba. Other players that played for Barcelona that night are Sergio Roberto, Sergio Busquets, Arturo Vidal, Frenkie De Jong, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Ansu Fati and Antoine Griezmann came on as substitutes for Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets. The aftermath of the match led to an overhaul of Barcelona Squad as Arturo Vidal, Nelson Semedo, Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez left Barcelona the following transfer window. The club also replaced Quique Setien with Ronald Koeman.
